Manufacturing USA Access Project, 2017
CREC provided technical assistance and counsel to the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) as they lead an effort funded by the Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment to explore opportunities for defense suppliers in the region to collaborate with emerging Manufacturing Institutes (Manufacturing USA). The US Departments of Defense, Energy and Commerce launched Institutes focused on 14 game-changing technologies through individual competitive proposal processes over the past five years, to secure the future of manufacturing in the U.S. through innovation, collaboration and education. One strategy they use is to further small and mid-sized manufacturers’ (SMMs) understanding and adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies (AMTs). In the project, DVIRC with Deloitte Consulting and other partners will design and establish an operational and service delivery model for DVIRC – DoD Institute collaboration. The model would: bring value-added knowledge, tools and capabilities from the Institutes to SMMs; help DoD SMMs learn about and adopt AMTs through direct association with the Institutes; better position individual SMMs for product and process innovation and market diversification opportunities; and bring the talent development expertise of the Institutes to institutions in the region to support the human capital needs of DoD SMMs.
