Project Profile

Arizona Aerospace and Defense Industry Survey and Data Collection

Arizona Commerce Authority
Start Date: Oct 2015 — End Date: Sep 2015

The Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) lead an effort to collect intelligence from Aerospace and Defense (A&D) firms in Arizona, which was used to populate a publicly-available database.

To accomplish this, CREC’s managed association, Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER), participated in:

  • ACA-led focus groups/semi-structured interviews to assess key data elements required for this work and established a rapport between the project team and businesses
  • Conducted a literature review of related A&D research in Arizona and other states
  • Reviewed ACA’s existing supply chain database and A&D company lists
  • Designed structured interview/survey instruments for data collection
  • Conducted a field test to refine the interview/survey instrument
  • Conducted the survey with the assistance of Oppenheim Research
  • Conducted follow-up survey via snowball sampling methodology
  • Produced an interview guide for in-person and telephone conversations to ensure that ACA staff can maintain and expand the database over time
