Counting the Prevalence of Post-secondary Certifications and Licenses 2018-2020

CREC, worked in collaboration with the Labor Market Information Institute, provided information about the prevalence of certifications and licenses to students, parents, faculty, individual workers, business leaders, policymakers, and members of the public.  CREC created state-level data from analyzing micro-data of national surveys highlight how prevalent certifications and licenses are for different industries and occupations, for different demographic cohorts, and for individuals with different educational attainment levels. The analysis also examined the relative value of different kinds of certifications and licenses, controlling for a variety of explanatory factors.  CREC aimed to help individuals choose to the most appropriate post-secondary credentialing option by sharing objective information about the economic benefits associated with attaining a post-secondary credential.  Offered at a state level, policymakers will have a clearer understanding of the roles that certification and licenses play in help workers to achieve positive labor market outcomes where they currently live.
